On-chain social, economic & environmental impact.
Every rand tracked. Real lives changed.
The Big Five Foundation is a registered NPO in South Africa (awaiting final approval under application APPL26-68748) and serves as the philanthropic heartbeat of the entire Big Five Group.
Our three primary objectives are Economic Development, Social Development and Environmental Development — all pursued with purpose-driven urgency to address the deep social, economic and ecological challenges facing South Africa and the broader African continent.
We create sustainable livelihoods and build local economies from the ground up. Through our container micro-franchise model, every single container shop generates 20 direct jobs while empowering the franchise owner with a profitable business. Big Five Foods supplies the nutrition, Big Five Direct provides the turnkey infrastructure, and the Foundation ensures the model reaches the most underserved communities. This is not aid — this is ownership, dignity and long-term economic independence.
We feed children, educate communities and develop the next generation of African leaders. Our fortified meals reach schools and feeding schemes daily, while Super-Cube leadership training equips young South Africans with the skills to lead. Every impact is tracked on-chain so donors can see exactly how their support is transforming lives.
We protect and restore Africa’s precious biodiversity and natural heritage. A powerful example is our support for the biggest rhino relocation in Kenya — one of the largest wildlife translocation efforts in African history. Working with Kenya Wildlife Service and partners, we are helping relocate dozens of critically endangered black and white rhinos to secure sanctuaries while simultaneously feeding and empowering the local communities living around these new conservation areas.
By providing nutritious meals, creating jobs through our container model, and delivering conservation education, we turn former poaching hotspots into thriving “conservation economies”. Local people become proud guardians of the rhinos instead of threats to them. This holistic approach protects wildlife, restores habitats through regenerative farming practices, sequesters carbon, and ensures that nature and communities thrive together for generations.
Across all our work we promote regenerative agriculture, reforestation and sustainable land use — because healthy people and healthy ecosystems are inseparable.
Contributing to the Big Five Foundation is not only deeply meaningful — it comes with powerful incentives. Donors receive **18A tax certificates** (allowing full tax deductions — see official SARS guidelines: SARS Section 18A). Contributions also qualify for **B-BBEE points** under the Socio-Economic Development (SED) and Enterprise & Supplier Development (ESD) pillars (see official DTIC B-BBEE framework: Department of Trade, Industry and Competition).
Using Big Five Connect (SupplierAdvisor®), every transaction, every container, every rand is recorded on the blockchain — completely transparent, immutable and auditable. Donors, partners and government can see real-time proof of impact. No black boxes. No uncertainty. Just trust.
"Overcoming poverty is not a gesture of charity. It is an act of justice. It is the protection of a fundamental human right, the right to dignity and a decent life." — Nelson Mandela
Ubuntu — “I am because we are” — is at the very core of the Big Five Foundation. We believe true progress happens when communities rise together. By feeding children, creating jobs, developing leaders and protecting our wildlife, we live this philosophy every day: lifting one person and one ecosystem lifts the whole nation.
This is more than an NPO. This is a movement. When you partner with the Big Five Foundation, you become part of a purpose-driven force that is feeding children, creating jobs, developing leaders and safeguarding Africa’s irreplaceable wildlife. Together, we are not just addressing challenges — we are solving them at scale, with transparency, integrity and unstoppable momentum.
